Lots To Be Grateful For

I’d like to wish all my dear American friends a very HAPPY THANKSGIVING.

Even though we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving in Australia I think today is a good day to reflect upon things in our life we should be thankful for…….

slide1

TEN REASONS TO BE THANKFUL:

* my husband and son, without whom, well, what would be the point?

* good friends who I can laugh with and count on

* my parents and sisters (despite our problems we’re still family, right?)

* being able to kick depression’s butt if I really need to

* the joy to be found in nature

* the wisdom of other writers (I include my dear blogging friends in that category)

* the sound of the sea lapping on the shore

* being faced with one setback after another; almost giving up, but deciding not to

* the scent of change in the air

* holding on for one more day…….

Why not use this day to give thanks.

What are you thankful for?

i am happy for the companionship of my two amazing fur children,, without who’s unconditional love and loyalty,, i more than likely would not be here today to write this..

i am happy to have my solitude,, time for introspection,, and an opportunity to finally get to know myself…

and i am happy for people like you in my life.. to inspire me,, to amaze me,, and mostly just to be my friend….

  2. I am happy to have love in my life, my family, two beautiful daughters and a comfortable home. Surprisingly I even feel thankful for my health because it could be a lot worse. I am also grateful for the good blogging frinds I have made who have quite literally saved me from myself many times with their endless and unconditional support. I feel blessed and very lucky.

  3. I’m grateful for a number of things:

    My excellent health, generally speaking
My friends who anchor and inspire me, and are my family
    This beautiful planet
The wonderful people – like you – that I’ve discovered through blogging
…and just knowing that somewhere…up there…someone’s got my back.

  5. Thank you very much for:

    My home, wife and children.
A lovely part of the country to live in
A great country to live in (despite the efforts of Messrs. Brown and Blair)
36 years in the Royal Air Force, completed with the same number of landings as take-offs
    The loyal, and much-missed Barney.
Absorbing, interesting … and remunerative … hobbies.

  7. PS: Forgot to ask, is there another date for Thanksgiving Day in Australia?

Also, what’s the buzz where you are re: the new movie “Australia”? I am not a big Nicole K. fan but her leading man in this one isn’t too shabby eh? 😉

    Bye again, G

  8. PAISLEY – a place to call home is an invaluable thing. I miss having that love from dogs. There really is nothing like it. I am also happy to have you in my life. It is such a joy. I really mean that. XXX

ROMANY – you really are such a positive person. When I think of the health issues you have to face on a daily basis, I wonder how I would cope. Not as well as you do, that’s for sure. I admire your can-do attitude. You always make me feel that it is possible to overcome setbacks. Thank you.

EPIPHANY – oh, I am delighted about the dear flamingo. And what about the little pygmy hippo? Knowing someone has your back, especially in a spiritual sense, is not to be sniffed at. Having blogging friends like you is also priceless!

KAREN – your path, your future, your past…..I love that. You always put things so well. You are brilliant!

TRAVELRAT – it sounds like you have a lot to be thankful for. Your point about the landings and take-offs really struck me. Of course you would want an equal number.

I’d love to hear about Barney sometime. We do miss them when they’re gone, don’t we? I also think you have incredibly interesting hobbies. Good on you!

MELEAH – how lovely to be spending Thanksgiving in Mexico. Hope you are enjoying your day!

GERALDINE – I meant what I said. You are the best!!!!!

GERALDINE – I am sorry to say we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving at all in Australia. I think we should, particularly in regard to honouring our indigenous people, but sadly, we don’t. I might need to get a campaign started….

I haven’t seen the movie yet but I do like Hugh Jackman. He is gorgeous but also a really nice guy. It looks like a real epic and I have heard the cinematography is outstanding. I’ll be interested to see how Australia is actually represented.

And my creative genius is itching for me to start writing… 😉 I didn’t realize how long it had been until I saw the link on the family blog say “two weeks”… EGADS!

Celebrate Thanksgiving anyway. Nothing stopping you from getting a feast together and gathering family/friends and counting blessings. 😉

  14. I’ve so many many things for which I am thankful. Blogsites such as this site is one of them. Any time I feel the slightest bit of lonliness, all I have to do is get Online and visit a friend or two. I think I am most thankful for my continuing good mental health. Sometime back in 1957 or 58, I was told by a licensed physician and good friend in whose home I spent many happy hours, that I thought I was thinking, but that I was not cogitating. I give that good friend, long dead now, my undying thanks for what I took to be the best advice ever given me, “Go home and start thinking. Start thinking for youself and quit allowing others to do your thinking for you.” Yes, I have much to be thankful for.

  15. Amen to these beautiful words of thanks!

I reckon we should try and get mr Rudd to give us a holiday like thanksgiving ;). I think it’d be good for the australian soul…

I’m thankful today for the softness of this morning, the warm eyes of my beloved, and the music that fills the world and makes itself everywhere apparent,

    Happy Saturday my friend,

    Soft light, M

MARY – what incredibly good advice. I’m going to take that on board myself and get thinking. And you’re right – visiting blogging friends is a great way to be cheered!!!

MAITHRI – wouldn’t that be nice if Mr. Rudd obliged? I am happy to have met you. You are a true poet!!

BEAR – I don’t know how I managed to take that shot. I took it over ten years ago – but the colours of the clouds and everything are just FAB. Unfortunately, it didn’t scan all that well, but then, I do have a crap scanner. Take care.

DAOINE – I’m grateful to know you. Your wish is something I wish for all of us. Fingers crossed…..

  19. I suppose you could regard Australia Day as the ‘Australian Thanksgiving’ as it commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet (although, in contrast to the Pilgrim Fathers, most of the early migrants would rather NOT have been there :D)

Whatever the reason for your break, I wish you everything you’d wish for yourself. Come back soon!

    Hope everything is o.k.
If you need cheering up, go to the adelaidenow news archives (30/11/2008) and read about “a wheelie special little dog” named Moet and the harness her owners have put her in to help her with a slipped disc, you’ll absolutely love it. (((Selma)))
