All I Need

Rozelle Bay

There are days when my tired old head won’t let me think of any stories or let me muse on life, love and everything in-between.

There are days when time gets away.

On those days it is good to walk in the clean air and watch as the cooling wind blows midnight blue clusters on the water. To think that if someone far away on the other side of the world saw me stepping along the foreshore they might believe I was an image from a postcard.

There are days when jumbled thoughts need birdsong, sunlight and trees to unwind. There are days when all I need are the enormous skies falling over the city.

Sometimes those days are the best ones of all.

  1. i am jealous that a walk can make you feel so much better,,, for me the stress involved in actually getting myself out there to take that walk is unbearable,, and i would so rather be like you in that respect…..

  2. I agree Selma. Sometimes a walk , and hearing the birds sing, listening to the wind blow through the trees , is all I need as well. It’s amazing how these little things can really put us at ease.

  3. I’m with you … whenever I’m stuck for ideas, I take the ‘virtual dog’ for a walk. And, never do so without a small voice recorder in my pocket. And,it’s seldom I come back without at least a couple of ideas.

  4. Yes, me too. I try to walk every day just as good relaxing time when thoughts can drift in and out or not.

I so miss big skies. It is what I have found hardest about being back here – the low cloud cover. It is so oppressive. We get so few days when the sky is clear or when cloud is high and wispy. I so miss it. Grey days are not good for the spirits.

  5. Hi Selma, Yay! For long walks. I find that if I’m stuck on a story or a problem, a walk gets me unstuck –in a good way. Cheers, DavidM

I used to feel that stress too, believe me. It does get easier the more you do it. My big stressor these days are places like supermarkets. I often have to get out of there in a hurry. I wish I had a personal shopper. πŸ™‚

    THE HURRICANE:
Just chillin’ hits the spot sometimes. Luv it!

    TOBEME:
I think it’s important if you’ve been working hard or have been emotionally overwrought to be able to do that. It restores the spirit!

    PUNATIK:
You are so right. In a way it puts things in perspective. I would love to go walking in your part of the world. Must be gorgeous.

    TRAVELRAT:
I used to have a voice recorder but I always felt slightly self-conscious using it. For some reason I couldn’t resist the urge to say ;”Clean up on Aisle 7.’

    NAT:
As beautiful as a song. Definitely.

    QUERULOUS SQUIRREL:
What a great way to view it. That’s exactly what it is. An idea or story gestates as we walk!

    RELUCS:
Well, you know we get the big skies in the land of Oz, particularly the further out of the city you go. I have also heard parts of the US are renowned for that. One day I will go on that American road trip I dream of. And just look at the sky!

    DAVID:
Completely agree with you. It is a good way to sort things out. I have written a lot of stories that way. I’ve started the walk with a glimpse of an idea, then by the end of it the whole thing is there!

    GERALDINE:
I really hope it stays clean, G. We’ve put poor old Mother Earth through enough!

    EMPLOYEE 3699:
    Good one. πŸ˜†

    ANTHONY:
Those are the days that get us through the dark nights. Absolutely.

    MAMA ZEN:
    Too right πŸ˜€

    JASON:
And lots of happy stuff to you too, with no people having conniptions (love that word!)

  7. You are right. There are times when we should stop judging our environment and just exist. Existing is all, we need sometimes. Happy existing. πŸ™‚

  8. This is precisely why I love solo “sports” like biking, kayaking and walking. Nothing brings life more into focus than seeing baby woodpeckers peek out of a tree hole or seeing a new wildflower and having to memorize it’s beautiful form so I can look it up at home and identify it. There’s nothing more calming than dappled sunlight and breeze and the antics of squirrels; Nothing more soothing than walking at night and feeling the stars.

It is nice to do that, isn’t it? It is incredibly good for clearing the mind. Thanks so much for stopping by!

    GROOVY:
Your comment is a poem. How lovely – baby woodpeckers, wildflowers, squirrels. I would be grinning from ear to ear.

    MELEAH:
It’ll come back, hon. Don’t worry. It happens to all of us. Just remember that you can do it!!!

  11. I must need a really really REALLY long walk. I look at those twitter prompts and break out into a sweat. I know it has to do with what I just went through, but still. I’m going nuts. These periods of nothing are unsettling to me – you take it with such grace.

Truthfully, I was shocked when I went to look up the old prompts and the whole search engine prompt site was gone. I never did lift my “award” either! LOL! It was a sad, sad moment. Where are you going for prompts now? I don’t want to go anywhere that you aren’t. I’m officially a “Selma” groupie.

    hehe

Well, I’m just going to have to make you another award. I thought about keeping the blog open but in the end I just thought DELETE. And that was that. Awww, hon. I feel bad now.

I’m writing over at Carry On Tuesday now. I’ll have to remember to put the button up. They’re a good group of people over there.
    I think the url is – http://carryontuesday.blogspot.com

Geraldine is also doing a monthly prompt called Movie Musings.

And stay tuned because I have joined Ms Karen on her writing blog. I’ll have to put the button up for that too. So much to do!
