TOP 5 SONGS ABOUT TIME

With a new decade and all a lot of people have been talking about time. How quickly it goes by.

Time and love are probably the subjects the songwriters and poets focus on the most.

So here are my Top 5 songs about time.

1. Time Has Told Me by NICK DRAKE.

One of the most beautiful songwriters that ever lived, in my opinion.

2. Time Is On My Side by THE ROLLING STONES.

An absolute classic.

3. Time After Time by CYNDI LAUPER.

Such a moving song.

4. Once Upon A Time by TONY BENNETT.

Incomparable.

5. I know I’ve already included a Stones song but I just can’t go past this one.

One of my most favourite songs ever.

Time Waits For No One by THE ROLLING STONES.

  2. I love Time After Time too. πŸ™‚ Amazing how many songs have Time in the tile.

Man of the Hour (Pearl Jam) — Stunning and beautiful and well… most likely to make me cry when I have PMS.
Closing Time (Leonard Cohen) — “The women tear their blouses off and the men they dance on the polka dots.”
Long Time Running (The Tragically Hip) — Again a quiet reflective song
Once in a Lifetime (Talking Heads) — Many a time I have stopped and thought to myself “Well, How did I get here.”
Ev’ry Time We say Goodbye — Ella Fitzgerald.

And a quiet nod to Nick Drake.

  3. Hi HURRICANE:
Excellent choices. I was going to include Turn Turn Turn too because I do like The Byrds. How could I forget ‘As Time Goes By’? Me, such a huge fan of Casablanca and all…

    Hi LAURI:
Take away Cyndi Lauper’s crazy hair and all the songs about girls wanting to have fun and you will see how well crafted this song is. A beautiful, enduring melody. My sister and I sang it once at a party just with guitars and it made everyone start bawling. It was a great moment!

    Hi NAT:
You always pick the best songs. As I have said many times, your musical knowledge is unsurpassed. How could I forget Every Time We Say Goodbye? OMG, what a song!

I love Nick Drake too. What a tragedy that was…

  4. Pink Floyd “Time”
“And then one day you find, ten years have got behind you. No one told you when to run. You missed the starting gun”

I don’t know why but the Talking Heads “Cross eyed and Painless” reminds me of time. “I’m Still waiting…I’m still waiting…”

Queens of the Stone Age “Better Living Through Chemistry”
“Is it too late to go back, is it too late to go ?”

    Queen “We are the Champions”
“I’ve paid my dues, time after time…No time for losers, ’cause we are the champions…of the world.”

Last but not least , David Bowie “Bring Me The Disco King.”
“Spin offs with those who slept like corpses, damp morning rays in the stiff bad clubs. Killing time in the ’70’s. Smelling of love through the moist winds. Don’t let me know when you’re opening the door. Close me in the dark , let me disappear.Soon there be nothing left of me, nothing left to release.”

Well those are my five. There are always some songs that don’t necessarily have time as a theme but the memories they invoke seems to put me back in …Time.
    This was fun, thanks Selma.

Every time I hear a Tony Bennett track I think of your Dad. Every time. It just cracks me up. I love The Stones too. Such a brilliant band!

    Hi TRAVELRAT:
My Mum will thank you for that inclusion. It is very hard to narrow things down to only 5 songs. Good choice!

    Hi DAVID:
I wanted to include Green Day and Tom Waits. Excellent inclusion. My father in law loves Andrea Boccelli, not as much as Pavarotti but he comes in a close second. That is a beautiful song!
