I have received three awards which I am very grateful for. The first is from Texasblu. Thank you so much, dear Tex.
I have to share ten honest things about myself with this award. We all know that honesty is such a lonely word, but I will give it a try –
1. I have told quite a few lies in my life. I’m not proud of it. Some lies were told to protect other people, some were told to protect myself. I have been beleaguered with an overload of catholic guilt for years as a result.
2. Sometimes I forget how to spell things. I often have to look things up. I was caught out with an editing job lately where I misspelled precipitate as precipatate. It was embarrassing.
3. I don’t like myself a lot. I irritate myself. I fall into the same old patterns over and over again. It’s a constant battle to change things.
4. I bear grudges. Not with everyone. Some things are incredibly easy to let go of, others linger (or should I say malinger). I would take out some people if I could.
5. I don’t like people who take themselves too seriously. It brings out my nasty streak. I’m all like Who the hell do you think you are, buddy? I believe we are all worth as much as each other. No one should lord it over anyone else.
6. I worry that my son will marry a woman who ends up being unkind to him. That would kill me. No matter how old he gets he will always be my little bubby.
7. Despite debating the ideologies over and over again I have belief in a higher power – a God. I used to think I was probably veering towards aetheism but I just can’t let go of the idea that there is something up there. What has convinced me of this are the paranormal experiences I have had.
8. I don’t mind failure but I’m terrified of success.
9. I think there is nothing wrong with a woman saying another woman is attractive. Doesn’t mean she’s a lesbian. I can appreciate a good aesthetic whatever side of the fence I find myself on.
10. Sometimes at night when I can’t sleep and there is nothing else on TV, I watch old cartoons on Cartoon Network. Scooby Doo and Josie and The Pussycats are favourites. However, once I watched Bob The Builder and really enjoyed it.
I would like to pass this award on to everyone who reads this blog, especially if you feel like getting something off your chest. Please let me know if you post about it as I would love to read it.
And the third is a SAP AWARD from Rowe at Societe Amore. An honour, indeed. Thanks for your constant support, Rowe.
Thanks for my awards, you three. You have made me feel all oogly inside!
I loved to read what makes you happy and greatly enjoyed your honesty and how well you articulated your responses. You deserve those awards , and so many more. Selma, this was such a delight to read! Nothing can make me happier than putting a story together and listening to my favorite song is a guaranteed way to cheer myself up when I’m feeling down!
Spelling! Oh my God, don’t get me started on spelling 🙂 I secretly thank to the man who invented the Word spell check every day!
In my experience, people who don’t think so highly of themselves are the best souls! They are usually to humble to realize what great people they are and I think you just proved my point 🙂
Congratulations on your award! 🙂

All well deserved Sel and I truly enjoyed reading your lists. I was typing that same word over and over the other day. Spell check, I don’t like to succumb to. 😉 Just like the kids now days that can’t add without a calculator in hand.
You should LOVE yourself Sel. I didn’t like reading that one. You are a special, gifted person with so much to offer to the world. We all have traits we could live without and improve upon.
I will definitely work on the Happiness list. Thanks for the honor, in return.
Hugs, G

HI LUA:
You’re right about the great feeling that comes when a story comes together. It is a natural high. I love it. Thanks for your lovely comment. You are a sweetie!
Hi GERALDINE:
Awww, thank you so much, G. I do need to work on that. I am probably too hard on myself.
Re. the kids – did you know most of the kids in Nick’s class can’t tell the time on a normal clock? They can only tell time on a digital one. I think that’s really sad.
Looking forward to your happiness list!

Selma you are a truly fabulous individual and I loved reading all that stuff about you. I am on your wavelength – I love the way little kids come and say hello in such a trusting way (why do they have to grow up) and I could take a few people out too – ha,ha! I know all about catholic guilt. But we support Carlton so ‘Go the Blues’ is what differentiates my family from yours. Scooby Doo rocks.

Hi ANTHONY:
It is nice to be appreciated. I am very fortunate.
Hi GABRIELLE:
The feeling is mutual. Little kids really do get it right. It’s not just their innocence I like, it’s their lack of cynicism. Is Carlton an AFL team? The Tigers are a rugby league team – our local one. I guess if I were to support an AFL team I’d have to go for the Swannies but I am partial to St. Kilda.
Scooby Doo is still excellent – even after all these years!
Hi MELEAH:
We are alike in many ways. The honest Scrap award was good because it made me really look at some things. Thanks again!
Hi DANA:
We are connected. I knew it. I’m thinking of you, hon. You’re not alone during this difficult time XXX

You know this I’m sure but if you work on the liking yourself more you will find that magically you irritate yourself a lot less! It is hard but it does make other things easier.
You’ll miss yourself when you’re gone, you know.

Selma,
Once again you have showed us your inner self, and the consensus is that your inner self is beautiful! I second Putanik’s call for the “Most Caring Blogger” award. Not being the most prolific blogger out there, I haven’t the foggiest idea as to how to go about awarding you that, but I am sure that given some time I can figure it out.
There’s a song by Alter Bridge called “Watch Over You”, and it has a very nice line:
“How can you love someone, and not yourself?”
So whenever you are feeling down, come to your blog, and look at the comments and awards that people have sent you. Feel the love, and more importantly, embrace it – it’s guaranteed to make you feel better!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your responses to ten happy things and ten honest things about yourself, Selma. You are a gifted writer, I’m always inspired by your posts. You play piano – my favourite instrument. May I ask about your fear of success? I hope it does not hold you back from it.

Hi RACHEL:
You crack me up. I would miss my grumpy old annoying self. I’m used to the way I am. Your comment has really tickled me!
Hi MANOJ:
Awwww. You are such a lovely guy. I am so grateful for your kindness and support!
Hi GABRIELLE:
Hope Carlton does well this year for you!!
Hi ROWE:
I do have a fear of success. I am currently discussing it with my therapist. She thinks it’s why I have difficulty finishing projects. It is actually quite a complex mindset to get into andthe reasons it develops are varied. I might actually write a post about it, I think!
