Thinking About Boats

I like boats a lot. I’d like to own a little dingy and tootle about on the bay. It would be so much fun.

I haven’t been able to get down to the bay this week because it has been pouring. The rain has been so heavy I have been expecting the houses on the hill to come loose and slide down into the water.

This was the park earlier on in the week. I can only imagine what it looks like now.

Maybe it is underwater completely right now. It will certainly be more like a river than a park.

So, to rid myself of the rainy day blues and because I miss my boats, I thought I’d share some of my favourite boat pictures from recent weeks.

Do you think this guy has boat envy? I had to laugh when I saw the difference in sizes.

There are so many great sights on the bay. A semi-working port and a view of the Harbour Bridge.

How many rowers can you fit in a boat? That thing must go like the wind.

I love this little sailboat. It’s like something from a storybook.

Aaaah. That’s made me feel better.

And now for the most important photo of the day. With a message we should always remember.

    I always wanted to rent a canoe or kayak for the day and spend it out on the water. We talked about it doing it this year but hub has issues with his shoulder and so we are hoping to do it next year. I think it would be a blast. They have guided tour here for most of the water ways.

    By the way with the heat and drought like conditions we are having, we’ll take the rain and you can have your 47c weather back! I’m not looking forward to local produce prices if we don’t soon get some rain!

    There is just something about the water and boats, it always looks so peaceful, and relaxing. i love your 1st picture with the Huge and the small boat, I can honestly say, I think the dingy would be more fun.

    Canoeing is great fun. I used to do it years ago. You get to see so many different places. And it’s great exercise. You should definitely do it.

    You are really copping it with the heat. That is too darn hot. I hope you get some rain soon. Whew.

I love boats too, but wouldn’t have a clue how to operate one or how to get it in the water – haha – but when the sea is really calm I think it would be great to go out on the water (maybe I could manage a kayak – well maybe not – probably get in a current and end up on the other side of Fraser Island.

  8. I also love boats. In my teens my boyfriend and to-be husband built a kayak and we used to sail on the Durban, KwaZulu Natal, bay. We would have to slip through security fences to get to the water, but it was wonderful. We would paddle over to Salisbury Island and the mangrove swamps.

  14. I love boats too … there’s something calming about them. Perhaps too they speak to me of an escape to a new world. I had a wonderful time on a catamaran many years ago.

    You gotta watch out for those currents. I got caught in a rip once on a surf ski. It was really scary and I had to be rescued by a lifeguard (who incidentally, just happened to be quite hunky.) My friends said I got caught in the rip on purpose so the hunky lifeguard would rescue me. As if I would 😉

    I love the boat houses. They’re so cute, aren’t they? I enjoy doing all those things you mentioned too. I often think how amazing it would be to live in a lighthouse. My friend’s parents live in an old converted one down the south coast of NSW. It is gorgeous, although it does feel weird living in circular rooms. So great to have you visit!

    I love boats and harbours too. There’s just something about them that lifts the spirits. Isn’t that storybook sailboat gorgeous? I’ve been looking out to see if I can spot anyone on it because I’d love to know their story, but so far I haven’t seen anyone. Oh, I do hope you get here someday. That would be brilliant!

    You have to go on a boat. It is so much fun unless you suffer from seasickness and then it’s no fun at all. Start off by going out on water that’s fairly calm. That’s a good way to test your sea legs!

    I know what you mean about cataramans in particular. There is somethiing quite soothing about the way they move. I always associate them with the tropics for some reason. So much fun!
