Out And About

I love going walking with my camera. There are always so many things to see.

This is the city skyline from Rozelle Bay and yes, I have a thing about cityscapes. I can’t help myself.

I thought this camellia looked good in black and white. They are such elegant flowers. It is as if they just belong in a painting.

Lots and lots of ducks. Who doesn’t love ducks? All that quacking is so cute.

The magnificent Main Quad at Sydney University. I always think it would look perfectly at home in a Harry Potter film.

The fantabulous Anzac Bridge. I love you, Anzac Bridge. I LOVE you!!

I saw this in a garden round the corner from me. The sexiest garden gnome ever. I’m sure she has NO trouble getting dates. Hubba hubba.

I love getting out and about. There are so many sights to see.

    1. The ducks in that pond are so cute, Deborah. As soon as they see me they come swimming up and quacking. I like to flatter myself that it’s because they like me but I know it’s because they think I have food. C’est la vie 😀

    Great photo’s, and you are so right about Main Quad, it would be ideal.
    But I really love that gnome, that must bring a smile to peoples faces when they see it in the garden. 🙂

  4. The camellia photo is stunning, Selma, and need I say anything about that bridge? 😀 Sydney uni’s main quad is how a university should look! I’m at Macquarie which is very much the old brutalist style (think gulag), but the new library there is fast making up for it – I also love your Garden Gnome – did you see the story about the kidnapped gnome last year? Thanks for your perspectives on Sydney – keep them coming!

        1. That story is hilarious, Bluebee, but also sad. That poor little gnome will be missing his home 😥 Reminds me of the French film ‘Amelie’ where she kidnapped her Dad’s gnome and sent it on trips around the world!

      1. I lived in Cambridge for 6 months when I was 13 – absolutely wonderful place, especially the buildings and waterways – the school kids were another thing altogether – haha – mixed school and too many hormones for the boys.

    And just this evening, I was watching ducks in my own neighbourhood. I love the “duck bums” when they dive in for a nibble of something under the water… And I also have a thing for city scapes. You always remind me to open my eyes, and to be thankful for what I have.

    1. Oh, me too, Jennifer. Me too. Speaking of duck bums…LOL…. I caught a good photo of one today when I was coming home from the shop. I was walking past the pond and there it was – POP – so funny. I’ll include it in a post next week!

    1. I really like black and white shots, Adeeyoyo. Not all the time but with the right subject they really are quite striking. Hey, a toad would be cool. Maybe I should try and find one and just put it there. Wonder what the owner of the house would think….haha.

  11. I do this often; I call it ‘taking the camera for a walk’ … try out different techniques, and really get hands-on with the beast (even though I’ve had it for some time now). Because it really saddens me to see someone on holiday trying to figure out how things work, when the damn thing’s been sitting in a drawer since Christmas.

    Speaking of stolen gnomes, did I ever tell the story of ‘Stormin’ Gnoman’ ?

    1. I haven’t heard the story of Stormin’ Gnoman, Travelrat. You have to tell me it. I love all these gnome stories. They are so much fun!

      1. Well, just before we deployed out to the Gulf in 1991, my friend and I saw a gnome in a garden centre that looked so much like Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf that we bought it … and, with a little bit of paint and plaster gave him a fatigue cap, and painted a set of desert cammies on him.

        He sttod outside our Ops Tent for a while, until the Man Himself came around to visit us, and we were told to lose him.

        Unfortunately, we couldn’t find him again, and assumed he had been ‘gnome-napped’

        We did hear an unconfirmed report that he’d been seen in the garden of a pub in Cambridge but he wasn’t there by the time we got there.

  12. Great pics! Have you tried tinkering around with them at picnik.com. That’s what I do and sometimes it just sharpens my photos up a bit or gets rid of a bit of unwanted shadow or whatever. Thanks for sharing

    1. Great to see you, Jon. I have used Picnik and have found it to be really good but at the moment I’m using a Mac App called FX Studio Pro. It is excellent. I am forever fiddling around with photos. I am hopeless with Photoshop so this other App is great for me. Lots of cool effects!

  15. I am inspired. I MUST get out more. I absolutely LOVE the garden gnome. I think she’s my favorite. They should have had her in Gnomeo and Juliet! (My kids have practically memorized that movie and we don’t even own it!)
