Little Sleepyhead

This little cherub sits and sleeps all day in my neighbour’s garden. He is a bit of a local attraction. Many people stop and talk in front of him (usually in soft tones so as not to disturb him) or nod to him as they walk by. I haven’t yet seen anyone just walk by and ignore him.

The other day someone tied a red balloon to the fence and just today I saw a teddy bear left by the mailbox. This little guy has captured local affections. So serene, so cosy amongst his greenery, he sleeps and dreams without fear.

    I love garden ornaments, I think they look fantastic, they can give a garden that little bit of a “formal” look I feel. The sleeping cherub is a really nice touch.
    Congrats on your story in Tuck, it was a great read, I again had good timing on my part, was having my usual morning coffee. 🙂

My Mum always told us kids that we each had our own guardian angel – I’ve always been big on angels (despite my rational facade – haha – I do believe in angels) – I’m also named after the Arch Angel Gabriel and Michael as well – Tessa missed out (wasn’t going to call her Raphael – haha). Your story is fantastic – congrats on the publication 🙂

    1. Well, you know I love my angels, Gabe. Some of them have weird names like Oriphiel and Zadkiel. Not really appropriate for modern day life. I’m really glad you liked the story. Cheers.

    1. There’s just something about him. Some statues really get to me. It’s as if a real person is trapped inside. A lot of the kids in the street really love this little guy. I can’t blame them 😀

  7. As you know, I have a fountain in my back garden, which someone once said I should have put in my front garden:

    ‘Some people just can’t pass by a fountain without tossing a coin into it. You’d have made a fortune!’

    1. You would have made a tidy sum from the fountain being in the front garden. I have no doubt. People love making wishes at fountains. Maybe you should get another one for the front. Haha.

    Congrats on your story being published. I’ll read when I’m not sleepy. Stopped in to tell you that your blog popped up on the first Google page that came up for me when I was looking up “friends who move away.” I sure was astounded to read a post of yours from 2 yrs ago when your close friend moved to Singapore. Ironically, my close friend moved to Singapore a yr later, last Oct and I still miss her. I’m not surprised, however, that your writing shown through. It just goes to show why I love reading your blog. I wasn’t even looking for you and yet, the topic of friendship, pointed to writing by you. No wonder I’m so comfy here!

    1. WOW. That’s amazing, Gel. I had no idea. It’s surprising what comes up sometimes with the search terms. My friend is still living in Singapore and I still miss her. She has hinted that she may come back to Sydney but not for a few more years. I really hope she does.

  11. I’m sure the statues are crafted from images of babies sleeping. Sometimes when I watch Lia sleep she reminds me of a little angel or cupid. It’s probably where they get their inspiration!
