You Can’t Stop ‘Em

Forget the Nanny State, we have a Pappy State. We (as a mob) want a leader who does not bother us with the why’s and the wherefores, but appears strong and just gets on with it.
That’s why we loved Howard so much. He declared war on a nation that not only was no threat to us but was a major trading partner, Iraq with no consultation, except with his best mate Goerge Bush.
He declared nobody would come to this country unless ‘we decided who and by what means’. He appealed to our distrust of foreigners by demonising a small, defenceless and easily identified group, projecting their image as potential terrorists, when they were the least likely group to be so. He lied again to win an election, telling us they were animals who threw their children overboard. He scared the pants off us with the impression we were about to be swamped by Al Qaida operatives. Then he let us know he was anti Muslim by inserting exclusively Christian chaplains into (secular public schools to attract the those right wing Christians like the Exclusive Brethren he hadn’t already gotten on side.
Abbott sees himself as the next Prime Minister and admits Howard is his mentor. To win, like his mentor, he will lie, destroy and scaremonger.
One scary part is that he gets weekly advice from George Pell, Catholic Archbishop of Melbourne, who mighht just have a bit of religious bias but the scaries part of all is that he is odds on to win. He has set a new low standard for political expediency and will destroy necessary reforms and furhter isolate us from world trends on climate change and any cooperative efforts on overpopulation, food security, the environment, you name it.
I suspect, like many other extreme Christians, he believes the Biblical myth of a second coming and the that the world is about to retire (to quote Phillp Adams) so it’s OK to pollute, exploit and leave sinners (like gamblers) to suffer while subsidising foreign owned mining companies and refusing to adequately tax their access to our (expendable) mineral wealth for community benefit. It’s also OK to demonise non Christians, because they aren’t coming to live forever in Heaven anyway.
Any Climate Change scientist will tell you that the world will go on, no matter what. But we will not be there. We willl however, leave the most complete fossil record of any extinct species. The irony is, there will be no species with the skill or need left alive to read it.
His ignorance of science and his ridicule of scientists shows he doesn’t believe humans are subject to the same natural laws as wiped out the dinosaurs and the hairy mamouth and explains his opposition to environmental reform.
Unfortunately Selma, we are very much the minority but we have to try to get the merssage our as you do. A vote for Abbott is a vote for an inequitable and violent future as we squabble ove the last drops of oil and scoop of coal.
As we should point out to our Christian freinds who are so fervent in their support, Matthew wrote in verse 7. By their fruits (works) ye shall know them!’ Jesus Christ would not have approved of Tony Abbott.

Oh for goodness sake. These politicians and their sound bites. Sound bites mean nothing. They attempt to convey meaning in a concise way. I think we’re all starting to figure out how meaningless they are – wherever we may live in the world. I’m hopeful anyway. In my city, the “illustrious” mayor’s sound bite that helped him win an election – “stop the gravy train” is now seen on all sides of the fence as a silly lie.” (Apparently the “gravy” was US PEOPLE – and our libraries, and our city’s rejuvenation, and our transit system, and our garbage collection…”)
