Big Shiny Balls

That got your attention, didn’t it?

Well, I wasn’t talking about anything but Christmas balls, you know, like this one…

Ahem.

I have been a hopeless blogger lately. Unfortunately, I haven’t been feeling up to it. It has taken a lot out of me to recover from this injury. The fatigue after walking from point A to point B is unbelievable. Together with that I have been experiencing severe headaches which is not what someone who suffers from the levels of anxiety I do needs. You see, I bumped my head when I fell and part of it until a few days ago was still sore so of course I begin to think slow bleed. Slow bleed in the brain.

So I had some tests. Turns out the headaches were just a result of the healing process. When you get a lot of bumps on your head it can take months for them to heal. My brain looks fine (although there were signs the imagination lobe was overactive…)and I have no skull fractures and no bleeds *star jumps and high kicks*

I am feeling a lot better than I was even two days ago as my stamina levels improve. Nobody told me that lying around on the couch for six weeks watching reruns of Jeopardy and Oprah’s Final Season would make it difficult for me to walk to the end of the garden. What is – a person who doesn’t acknowledge that baby steps always lead to bigger ones. Moments of Denial for $500 please, Alex.

I have missed getting around to everyone’s blogs and I’ve missed doing the things I normally do at Christmas such as making my fruit cake and my chocolates, playing Christmas carols on the piano, going in to the city and sitting in the Christmas glory that is St. Mary’s Cathedral and of course, checking out the light displays in the local neighbourhood.

So I’m going to try to do all those things over the next few days. And rejoice in the fact that I am finally in a position to do them; because that’s what Christmas is all about – the rejoicing. And big shiny balls.

  2. Hi Selma,
It is a difficult time of year to be trying to recover, but I’m glad to hear things are starting to come good. You had a very bad fall and the healing process is going to take some time, but you will get there, and before you know it, you will be back to walking around and taking those lovely photos again. 🙂

I smiled when you mentioned the Cathedral, as I have a post ready to go for tomorrow and it is about St. Mary’s. 😀

  3. Isn’t everyone’s afternoon television the pits?

I’ve been laid up twice, and each time I’ve said that whoever invented the video tape and the DVD ought to be knighted, if not canonised! (I did welcome the chance to catch up on some reading, as well)

Try not to let the cabin fever get to you too much, lassie!

  4. Selma on the way to making a big recovery…oh yeah! I knew you’d have to take it easy for a while. I remember the fracture I had a few years ago (2005?) and all I could do was lie on a makeshift bed and watch tv all day & all night long. Cudn’t sit for long hours as my toes were fractured too. A week went by and it felt like a year. The second week wasn’t so bad. You just take rest and get well and we’ll wait for u.
And I’m thinking of hanging my big shiny balls in the balcony so the cute girls in the next building can see and admire!!

    1. You are so sweet, Adee. It is great to be feeling a little more on top of things. It does take a while, for sure. Glad to be able to visit everyone again too. I missed all of you xxx

  5. Overactive imagination lobe – bwhahahahaha – who knew of such a thing 😉 I am glad your headaches don’t have a sinister basis. It’s a rotten time of year to not be feeling 100% (on the other hand – get those men of yours to do everything). Balls to you Selma (and a big Christmas hug and lots of virtual kisses – and I’ll throw in a virtual chocolate snow drop – the ones that look like boobies with coconut on the top) – hahaha.

  6. Haha, you know how to get attention with a post title like that! I’m so glad to hear you’re very much on the mend (I’ve been a hopeless blogger lately, but only because I’ve been feeling a bit meh about the whole thing).

Take care my dear, and I hope you get around to doing all those wonderful Christmas things … 🙂

  7. I’ve been an absentee blogger of late but I’m working through some things that are all together too personal (or maybe not) for my blog.
I’m just now reading about your injury. I’m sorry I hope it heals and while it does we’ll give you a hall pass on blogging.

And if that means sitting on the couch eating shortbread cookies then so be it.

    1. Sorry to hear you’ve got things to work through, Nat. Hope they’re getting sorted out. I’ll be thinking of you. It’s been a really hard year. Just about everyone I know is going through something. Look after yourself, hon.

I suppose I could force myself to sit on the couch and eat shortbread, you know, if you think it’ll help…..hahaha. Great to see you xx

  10. Sometimes, getting “time off” because of illness is a gift. I know, it is like saying money does not bring happiness but it sure helps!
I wish you a Merry Christmas, enjoy all the lights around, it is also one of my favorite things in December and enjoy your time off!

    1. Sorry for the late reply, Cathy. It’s tricky to get everything done at this time of year, isn’t it? Yes. We are very fortunate in Australia to have such colourful flora and fauna. It does make the landscape a lot cheerier. Hope your New Years plans are going well!
